Okay, I did this maladroitly on July 4 so I'm going to try to do it better today, and maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment by even bringing up the subject, but I just can't post jocularly about food on September 11th without making note of the occasion and giving thanks for this country, which, no matter its faults, continues to draw people from every part of the world who, in turn, share with us their wonderful culinary traditions. I have eaten in many countries and enjoyed them all, but you only have to go to England, where your choices are English and Indian, or Italy, where they're Italian and Chinese, or France, where they're French and bastardized American, to appreciate the uniqueness of a country where I can't decide if I should go have Thai, Turkish or Oaxacan today.
