GINGER- no joke

A couple of days ago someone posted a very enthusiastic review of Ginger, a little sushi place on 1st ave. between 6th and 7th sts. Since that's gonna be my new hood as of next week, i decided to check it out...

This place is amazing. Not only is the tuna ridiculously fresh (some of the freshest I've seen), but the roll combinations are really unique and if you're adventurous, you'll have yourself quite a bit of fun. Take for instance, the golden roll- eel and avacado with peanutbutter on top. Or my favorite- the redhead- eel and avacado (again) topped off with spicy tuna. I also appreciated the fact that the rolls were pretty modest in size (packed with different ingredients but very compact nonetheless)- it lets you savor everything at once as opposed to just making a big mess around your soy sauce bowl.

The real draw to this place is not only the sushi but the genuine hospitality that went above and beyond what i have come to expect from a restaurant. Both the sushi chef and the owner came over to talk to me- the sushi chef even offered to help me move into my new place! And, and this is always my favorite, they kept bringing us lots of free stuff. A green bean appetizer, teriyaki grilled calamari (delicious), and green tea ice cream.

Please try this place out to make sure it stays in business.
