Are there any restaurants in New York that do a proper, European-style doner kebab sandwich? As in a kebab in pide bread (thick flatbread, definitely not like a pita) with garlic sauce and chili sauce and the perfunctory salad?
Most of the doner kebabs I've seen in NYC have been sad specimens - just sliced up doner meat in pita bread with tahini, hummus and a dollop of hot sauce. While I have nothing against the American style, it's just not what I'm looking for.
Are there any places in Manhattan or the boroughs that serve this greasy treat?
