. . . because the thingie that heats up and eventually fires my oven isn't working right; it takes forever for my over to start heating, and when it does, I hear a big "whuff" and, recently, I've been smelling gas before it whuffs. It's a Maytag, and the burners work fine. I am not feeling flush at present, and would like to avoid spending a lot on a home-cooking kind of stove, and I would particularly like one that I could light by myself (as I can my burners, if the electricity goes off). I'd also like to have room on top of the stove to set a pot after moving it off the burner, which I can't do unless I put in on another burner. I certainly don't need any fancy stuff, like self-cleaning oven or turbo-charged burners. What I'd like to know is, what would be the breakpoint for getting my old stove (11+ years) fixed, versus buying another? My needs aren't great--does anyone have any suggestions?
