The Garibaldi Salad promised peaches, gorgonzola, candied pecans, mixed greens and a white balsamic dressing. The gorgonzola and pecans were good, but sadly there weren’t enough peaches to really make this salad sing. It only came with some quarter-inch slices spread on the plate under the rest of the salad. I would have preferred some chunky wedges to match the nice-sized chunks of gorgonzola and pecans. Otherwise, the dressing was good and the lettuce was fresh. I was just oversold on the peaches.
The acorn squash and apple soup was a masterpiece. Who would have thought to blend these into a soup? It had a deep, rich flavor and tasted creamy, although there was no cream. This was truly an accomplishment. It was delicious.
The lamb entrée came with 3 good-sized marinated lamb tenderloins, served over couscous with raisins and currants and then topped with a delicious tarragon sauce. The size of these cuts (i.e., they had uniform thickness) allowed for the cooking to achieve what I’ve never had before: the lamb was a little char-crusty on the ends, and a little pink in the middle. And it was SOOO tender. The sweetish sauce went perfectly with the gold raisins, and the neutral couscous gave it the needed carbohydrate body.
There were also some perfectly-cooked green beans underneath that stayed barely crunchy throughout the meal.
The halibut entrée was also cooked perfectly and served with a tomato almond sauce over black rice. This fish was flaky and tender, and it had the firmer texture I prefer over cod or seabass. The black rice was al dente, and added a very pleasing texture to each bite. The sauce was perfectly matched to the fish and rice, and brought the whole dish together.
For dessert, the pistachio semifreddo with chocolate sauce wasn’t really my cup of tea. It tasted to me like frozen mousse. But my wife liked it.
Much better, I thought, was the banana and rum bread pudding. It was slightly crusty around the edges, which added texture not normally found in bread pudding. It came with candied pecans and a small scoop of vanilla gelato. This dish was rich and delicious.
This was a delightful meal. They also have a nice wine list including many wines by the glass.
