Garden Bay Cafe - odd reception and subsequent departure

Delighted to learn of an Armenian restaurant in Brooklyn (Time Out Cheap Eats), my family and I ventured over to Garden Bay Cafe just off of Emmons Ave in Sheepshead Bay. The interior of the restaurant was completely empty and as we walked through to the garden we passed at least 3 waiters, none of whom bothered to reply when I said "hello". Weird. The garden was about half full and we asked to be seated and were told we would have to wait. We waited. About five minutes later we pointed to the empty tables and were told they were reserved, all 5 of them, both 6-tops and 4-tops. Weirder. They continued to ignore us and when I asked one of the waiters if he they had a high chair he vehemently shook his head (note: there were other small children eating there, this is definitely a family place). So we left, went around the corner to Istanbul restaurant and had a fabulous meal. It was all too strange to even make me angry, they honestly just wanted us to leave. And we were so excited to try Armenian food, it was truly disapointing.
Has anyone been here and had a different experience?
