I was in downtown Santa Rosa at lunch time yesterday and picked Annapurna from my list of places to try. It turned out that Annapurna has been replaced in that location by Ganesha (Nepalese & Indian), which has been open for three weeks. I had their lunch buffet ($8.95). It's a smaller buffet than the huge ones at some places, and that 's probably a good thing. I had some of everything (except the lentil soup or whatever) and liked everything, which is way more than I can say for most of these types of buffets. I'm not an expert on this cuisine, but found everything tasting very fresh, with complex (if not strong) flavors. I was particularly intrigued with the spinach-corn curry, a sort of creamed spinach with corn and great flavor. Note that nothing was really hot, all mild but with very good flavor. They may be replacing the lunch buffet with a lunch-special menu because of the cost of preparing all the buffet items each day for their still-sparse business. The staff was uniformly helpful and friendly; the requisite small child was playing/working at a laptop at one of the vacant tables. Give this place a try and see what you think.
