So, had the $20 prix fixe lunch at Fuzion for Summerlicious. Here's a quick review and my one issue.
The first coruse - Potage of Green Zucchini and Organic Elephant Garlic, Corn and Spiced Almond “Relish”, Truffled Balsamic Yogurt - was quite tasty, and others at our table had the Composed Salad of Watermelon, Heirloom Tomato and Greek Feta, Pistachio and Pickled Shallot Dressing, which was also said to be good.
The dessert course - Thyme Roasted Stone Fruits, Polenta-Olive Oil Cake, Whipped Vanilla Ricotta - was fine (the cake was a little dry), and others quite enjoyed the other option - Banana-White Chocolate Mousse, Valpolicella-Dark Chocolate “Fudge”.
The main course - well, here's the thing. All of us but one at the table ordered the Kobe Beef Brisket “Croque Monsieur”, Apple, Fennel and Horseradish Slaw. The sandwich - which also came with fries - was fine, but the meat looked, smelled, and tasted a whole lot like corned beef to me. True, corned beef does come from brisket meat, but as far as I know nobody's making corned beef from Kobe (esp. new chef Sam Girgis - at least I hope not). Just as the saying goes - putting a cat in the oven doesn't make it a biscuit - calling it Kobe beef brisket doesn't make it so.
The sandwich was tasty, that's not really the issue. I just hope that today Fuzion ran out of the Kobe beef brisket and made a last-minute (unannouced) substitution, and isn't trying to pull a quick one on paying customers during Summerlicious.
