Fun evening out--reasonably priced?

eve | May 2, 2006 08:44 AM

I am looking for a dinner spot for this Sat nite (prefer not have to make reservation so we can be flexible) that is not too expensive--let's say $100-for two with 1 or 2 drinks.
It should be good food--more ethnic than continental (no foie gras, if you know what I mean). I would skip Japanese and Chinese. Should be lively, fun, perhaps music--recorded or live. The sort of place where you can let down your hair and relax. But still a nice evening out. Crowd about 30-50's in age--not too noisy or yuppiefied. Not too off the beaten track.
I admit it's not for me but for a couple who live on Long Island who got a last minute babysitter and want to enjoy Manhattan. We don't have the same taste (I prefer Bouley, Aureole, etc).

Can you help here? I have been praising CH to my friends for so long. This would be a great way of showing them what a great community we have here. Thanks so much.
