Fried Tamales in Red Hook

sarah | Jun 22, 2003 05:33 PM

i went by the soccer fields today for a pupusa (yum), and at the same vendor I saw someone handed a fried tamale. Clearly I had to have one.It was served with crema. It was all corn, with some ground up kernals in addition to the masa. Did I mention it was deep fried? Ordinarily I think the all corn kind are too sweet, but when they are fried they take on a new demension. If you are facing the street with your back to the soccer fields they are the third from the left (first a fruit vendor that also sells corn, then the huarache vendor, then this one). the pupusa wasn't bad. but I had a better one last time I was there. I also had chicharrons wih sweet plaintains and rice and peas. That was all I could have today because I was eating alone...there is always next week (hopefully)
