we had friends in town who are picky eaters so we took them to F&J's and it was a big hit. we all started with drinks and the lumpmeat lobster and shrimp cocktail for apps. very fresh and tasty. lots of lobster. we thought the four shrimp to be meager, but at least it divided up well among the four of us-ha!
so then we all ordered steaks, sirloin for the gals, surf&turf for him, t-bone for me. i admit i cringed a bit when our very midwestern guests were asked by the old school waiter how they wanted them done, but they said medium and the waiter seemed ok with that so we dodged 'the snub.' also, when asked about steak sauce and catsup we all at once said no thanks and we got 'the nod' for that. yes i was watching the guy like a hawk.
so today my spouse laughs at me when i talk about things like 'the snub' and 'the nod' but its all important to me, ladies and gentleman i ask you am i nuts? i did not let on to this at the time of course and i know i have to give them more credit and me some shame for worrying about it. anyone else ever have this issue in a steakhouse?
to end the story, we got rare for her and black&blue for me as always. all were cooked correctly. i felt my steak was ok, a bit tougher than i have had in other places and too salty. we got out for around $275 with tip.
fyi, i can rec the new towering doubletree suites hotel and rooms, very nice. good baysitting service too, $20/hr min 4 hrs. i can not rec the the marriot marquis revolving view bar. sickening, and not just because its spinning you around but because its so sleazy. even smelled like a vegas casino. who says times square is cleaned up?
