Organic grocery Whole Foods Market will anchor a high-end mixed-use complex in a blighted stretch of West Seattle, a development that area businesses and residents saluted Wednesday as healthful.
The Austin, Texas-based company will take 50,000 square feet of retail space and four floors of underground parking in Fauntleroy Place, a mixed-use development planned for the corner of Fauntleroy and 39th Avenues Southwest, where Fauntleroy meets Southwest Alaska Street.
Hancock Fabrics, which is nearby, will take the remaining 14,000 square feet of retail space.
"We think having Whole Foods will literally make this project," said Steve Hartley, a principal for Seattle's Northwest Resource Management Group, which plans to break ground on the $45 million complex late this year and complete it by mid-2008.
