I was very surprised to see vacuum packed slices of foie gras in the regular butcher case at the Loblaws at Yonge and Yonge the other day. Vacuum packed, looked to be uncooked, and coming in around $150 per kilo for good sized slices of Quebec duck foie. The packages were a couple of slices, a little over 100 grams for close to $20.
Is this a sign of the great proletarianization of foie gras in Toronto, or some ill-timed grab for the dwindling high end market? Has anyone seen a comparable price at the various specialty shops?
