went to the EV flor's kitchen last night after there was a wait at caracas. there's a new menu with a couple more appetizer options than i remembered and maybe a small increase in their prices. (maybe this is not so new; it's been a few months at least since i was last there).

among us, we tried the arepitas dulces, the empanada de carne mechada, the arepa with scrambled eggs, the arepa with black beans and plantains, and the empanada with black beans and cheese. with the exception of the arepitas dulces (ordered as an appetizer, but came out with everything else, tasty but not particularly great) everything we got was BLAND BLAND BLAND. we added lots of salt (way more than i'm used to adding in a restaurant) and their sauces (one a very subtle avacado, lemon cilantro; one with heat but little flavor) which only helped incrementally.

i've always preferred caracas, but used to think flor's was decent. i left last night really regretting not waiting for caracas. was this typical of flor's or was this just a bad night?
