Grotto (or is it The Grotto?) continued its string of delicious, high-value dinners again this weekend. Packed evening (loud in there!) didn't affect smooth, friendly, tag-team service. Fine appetizer of crunchy ricotta disk on big cylinder of barely sauteed baby spinach. (I don't recall seeing so many vertical presentations before, maybe because we often get pasta here.) A nice little contorno of sauteed artichoke hearts and potatos.
Two favorites still fabu, the cavetelli with sausage in cream sauce, and the potato gnocchi with short ribs and Gorgonzola (half only: you have to be superhuman to finish a whole order of this incredibly rich dish). Warm chocolate cake not as gooey as usual, but still delicious, with excellent ice cream.
A number of respectable wines on the list in the $30-50 range. So pleasing to see consistency in a place we like! And still a bargain overall: about $60 inclusive for two, not counting wine.
