Finally!--Great Haitian in Manhattan! (manje sa koupe dwet!)

Last night I finally found something I've been looking for for the past two years: A great Haitian restaurant. I was skeptical, as I haven't found great Haitian food in Manhattan, but this place was really stunning. The food, in addition to being beautiful, was delicate and sublimely flavorful. I had the boulette, small balls of melt-in-your-mouth meat sitting in a colorful, richly spiced sauce. I'll be back soon to try their legumes and the pork griot, two of my Haitian favorites. I've eaten hundreds of Haitian meals in my life (mostly in the homes of Haitians), and this was one of the very best. I've also eaten at most of the Haitian restaurants in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, and this surpasses all of them. Don't let the kitchy decor deter you; plastic flowers are an essential fixture in Haitian culture. This place deserves a visit from Robert Sietsema. Location: 328 E 14th St, bet. 1st & 2nd Ave. (212-228-3760)
