OK, i went back to Fidel's. There was a recent positive posting on this new Palms neighborhood joint and I must follow it up to get people in there (though they're doing well already).
I had the barbacoa/birria. Outstanding. Rich broth, goat falling off the bones.
Great setup too: some outdoor tables, indoor tables, and a long counter. Fidel runs the place w/his family and he is impossibly (not gratingly) nice and talkative.
It has a Oaxacan bent, as Fidel and his wife are from there, but they have burritos for those who need them.
Food is inexpensive. They serve menudo, pozole and barbacoa/birria on the w/ends. chilaquiles and huevos rancheros available everyday.
They open at 8 everyday and close at 5 on M-W-F. 10 on Tu-Th. 8, i think, on S-S. The hours will change when he finds someone to run the place in the evenings.
