A few weeks ago, San Carlos decided to start up a Thursday evening farmers market. I believe the hours are 4-8 pm. Location is on Laurel Street just South of San Carlos Ave.
I've gone for the last 3 weeks and I think it's pretty darn decent. There was a lack of bread this week but last week the guy that was there said he'd be absent for the next 2 weeks... Oh well.
At the end of the first block is a guy that has fresh basil that he must have literally just pulled out of the ground. Roots are still on with clumps of wet dirt. Big bunches! I've made some delicious pesto for several friends. Yummmmmmm.
Other stands I stopped at included: Brentwood corn, fresh tamales - these are good!!!! I think it's the same woman from the CSM gig on Saturdays. Tomatos - mix and match for $1.50/lb, Stone fruit same price (different vendor), cookies (kind of expensive - $4/small bag) but they were yummy. Raspberries/blackberries $5/3 bskt.
There was music, but I didn't stay long enough to listen since I wanted to get home to cook. The Peninsula folk are out in droves. It's refreshing to see so many people out and about since San Carlos sidewalks are generally rolled up by 7:00.
