Last night was our incredible anniversary dinner at Farallon in SF. Talk about a "dining experience"!! It was incredible from the minute we walked in. I made reservations two weeks ago and they asked if it was a special occasion, so we got a great little cozy circular booth in the main dining room. Everything is a seafood theme from the huge jellyfish lights, wall murals, very cozy and inviting.
The service was impeccable from start to finish, every dish was delivered at the perfect moment...Hubby had six different oysters from the raw bar which came w/ a hand written list of their origin; I had lobster bisque which came in a copper pitcher, then was poured into the huge white bowl on top of fresh green pea puree and creme fraiche--it was sooooo good! He had a local melon salad with all kinds of different melons sliced and arranged geometrically on different kinds of colored lettuces with other chopped veggies.
Then he had halibut with fresh local steamed green and yellow beans and I had sea bass on a small pile of lemon house made fettuccine with tiny Manila clams in the shell around the plate. Best fish we've ever had--so fresh adn cooked perfectly. Before the main course, the chef sent out two little tiny amuse bouche-- little bites of puff pastry filled with wild mushroom puree. After the main course, we ordered desserts, but the waiter first brought out a big white plate with Happy Anniversary spelled out in melted chocolate and two small glass clam shell dishes with tiny scoops of espresso granita (ice) and vanilla gelato (another amuse bouche).
Then the desserts....Hubby had peanut butter mousse on a plate covered in dark chocolate surrounded by candied peanuts and whipped cream. I had homemade vanilla gelato scoops on top of oatmeal/caramel crumbled cookies covered with caramel syrup and chocolate fudge syrup with three little chocolate dipped oatmeal cookies stuck in the top. Every single bite of every dish was so amazing. Total for everything with one cocktail for me, iced tea for him & tax was $163. We were there two hours and it was absolutely packed, but we were never rushed at all--great people watching.
