Really enjoyed my experience there today. chose the chinese chicken salad to start (usually $19 on their menu). If it wasn't full-size it was close, I loved the handfull of fried wonton strips on top, it rested on three full leaves two red and one green. High-quality romaine, herbs, other lettuces, some very bitter, with nice breastmeat chicken -- took a long time to devour and enjoyed it. Followed by the szechwan beef (usually $45) which was easily a 6-8-oz steak (flank? maybe not...) sliced on a bias with blistered, sauced hericot verts and a baby lettuce salad off to the side. Great dish. Cooked to medium-medium-rare (I would have specified medium-rare) but a great dish. Finished with the lemon tart -- a small individual disk with a topping akin to a crunchy sugar creme brulee over a blackberry sauce with a nice scoop of a raspberry sorbet served over a dime-size disc of crispy meringue, tart and sweet and wonderful but how does a "raspberry" sorbet come out purple? Anyway, delicious and a fantastic dessert.
In earlier threads some have bashed Chinois as serving minimized portions for DineLA -- this wasn't my experience at all. Great lunch, true discount, the usual excellent Puck service, I'd do it again if I wasn't heading out of town.
