El Pollo Rey KC KS

I just made it to El Pollo Rey this fall after far too long here in KC without accomplishing the same, and was thinking about it today. I googled it and discovered no posts on chowhound so I am fixing this.
El Pollo Rey, at 1101 Kansas Ave (or thereabouts) in KC KS, makes the best chicken I have ever had, in my entire life. It's marinated in deliciousness (vinegar? lime? spices, for sure) and grilled over smoky wood. Forget Strouds and any other fried chicken I -or you- can think of. This is the stuff, the stuff of dreams, not kidding. You and your car will smell like smoke by the time you get this chicken home. In a good way.
Order a half or whole chicken dinner. My experience included a native english speaking order-taker, although I hear this is not always the case. You should also ask for an avocado, which will be ripe and which they will cut up in quarters for you. (they won't volunteer about the avocado, but do it and thank me). The beans are good and have sliced frankfurters in them, along with deliciousness. The rice is you know, tomato rice, it's ok. Your half or whole chicken will also come with more tortillas than you can eat, fresh white corn ones, wonderful. And salsa, a sort of food-processed mash of tomato, onion and fresh jalepenos which is also great once you add some salt.
Ohh it's good. I am going to get a chicken tomorrow, I was too tired to drive there tonight.
