Having read so many raves about this place I figured (in that dark skeptical mind that I have) that the reviews were "planted" by friends/relatives/business partners of the owners, because it's SO rare for a new resto to come out of the blocks with truly deserved raves.
But in Eggplant's case it's all true - everything is great - especially the service (yeah, yeah, I know, service is the "new" thing in Toronto), but at Eggplant they do it like they seem to mean it.
To the food - you must try the beef skewers and ribs appetizer - we had this as a platter it was 42 bucks and shared between 5 very hungry "man food eaters" - it was excellent. Terrific Vietnamese spicing on the beef skewewrs, and the pork ribs were just falling off the bone in a delectable sauce. (And how's this for service - our waiter gave us bowls of warm lemon water for us to rinse our paws in after he noticed I was using my own packaged hand wipes.)
For mains we had sticky chicken, salmon, tuna, we shared amongst ourselves and loved every single bite. Then we had the dessert platter. Oh. My. God. Let me just say that if you are not in the market for the whole platter you should at least try the individual lemon merangue fruit tart and/or the espresso creme brulle. I'm not a sweet fan, but those two were exceptional. 5 star hotel grade desserts.
Overall, a great place. Enjoy it and hope it lasts.
