I am asking this for a friend of mine in the States who is heading over to Scotland for the British Open in July. He's hitting Edinburgh, Glasgow, and St. Andrews and is looking for casual restaurants that are good for groups and are decently priced given the lackluster USD.
I've done some pre-research and have the following for him, but I want to narrow it down a bit...3 - 4 restaurants per city with 1 - 2 bar suggestions. And I kinda want to be able to quote people, so if you know of any good resources for local reviews or have some personal notes you could share, please point me in the right direction. (Email me via my blog via my CH profile.)
Debated breaking this up into three separate posts but figured you guys could handle it...
The Seafood Restaurant
Luvians: Ice cream and whisky
(could obviously use some more suggestions)
A Room In The Town: BYO?
Jackson's on the Royal Mile: Fancy but with whiskey pairings
The Atrium: Reliable place, great wine list
Martin Wishart: fancy
http://www.ijmellischeesemonger.com/ is the best cheesemonger in Britain
Valvona & Crolla: great Italian deli
Oloroso: don't eat here, but have a drink on the terrace
Stravaigin: Modern Scottish
Ubiquitous Chip: Scottish
Babbity Bowster: Bar and music?
No Sixteen: Fancy
Two Fat Ladies: Fish
The Doocot: Lunch, Views
Bar 10: Fun bar.
