Three of us had dinner at the Back Eddy on Saturday. I understand that the restaurant changed ownership a while back. I still wish that I made it down there while Schlessinger was still in the kitchen. But all in all, it was a decent meal. And there were a lot of people waiting to be seated when we left, so they must be satisfying the locals.
The standout of the meal was the stuffed clam appatizer -- truly excellent. They seemed to be made with chunks of bread, rather than breadcrumbs, so they had a much lighter texture than most. We will try to duplicate this at home.
We also had the steak taco app, which was fine. I was hoping for something on par with the black and blue tuna taco at East Coast Grill, but it just wasn't that good.
My husband had the fried scallops, which were huge and sweet. The fries were a bit over done.
Mother-in-law had the New Bedford scallops (also huge and sweet), which were wrapped in bacon and served with a summer succotash of corn and peppers. There was a heat to this side dish, perhaps from chili oil, that I found pleasant, but was a bit surprising to a palate that isn't into spicy.
My clam fettucini was rather flavorless.
All in all, if I were in Westport again I'd go back.
