went to echigo friday night and business was slow. it's really a sad sight when crowds of people are out the door at places like california roll factory & tenjin, but echigo sits virtually empty. if sushi lovers would just drive a few blocks further west on s.m. blvd, echigo would provide a much more rewarding experience.
we enjoyed dinner at a table (chef's choice at the bar is difficult w/husband's allergies to much seafood). all items tasted were fantastic: toro was buttery, the octopus had a wonderfully delicate texture and briny sweetness, the uni luscious. the crab rolls were giant & sweet & lovely. they use warm rice, which i really like.
the space is simple & much more relaxing than sasabune, the service friendly. others have mentioned their $10 lunch special m-f., a good intro to the restaurant.
