I moved to this area recently, and I've noticed a number of threads on ramen places. I live in Mountain View, and there are several which are very popular.
I haven't tried them, though, and I guess it's because I think of ramen noodles as those horrid little cheap packages of greasy noodles and chemically flavoring, all packed with MSG which I am allergic to.
Clearly, I'm missing out on something, based on all the rave reviews. But, I'd like some more opinions before I dip my toe into new waters, especially since large amounts of MSG make me ill. Do real ramen restaurants use MSG? Is that packaged 4-for-a-dollar crap just a shadowy imitation of the real stuff?
Chowhounds, educate me please. I thank you.
