Restaurants & Bars 6

Easton report

Boy, there are a lot of bar & grills in Easton! We went to two and liked one a lot. (We never made it to Weyerbacher's brew pub, but we did drink their ale elsewhere, and liked it.)

Pearly Baker's (on the traffic circle in the center of town) is nothing special. We had (what else?) a burger and fries; nothing wrong with it, nothing particularly attention-catching either. This is where we drank Weyerbacher's ale.

Porter's (on Northampton Ave. and 7th or 8th Street) is really nice. Excellent burgers (served on good bread), good pickles (which I was not expecting), good pasta salad (oddly, no french fries). And their beer list! Their ceiling is hung with row after row of bronze mugs; once you have drunk each of their coupla-hundred beers, you get your name on a mug. (And I'm assuming, that becomes you're mug to drink from when you come in.)

Other experiences: good vegetarian chili at Quadrant Books's coffee shop (on North 3rd); bad vibes at Easton Sweets Shop (on the traffic circle); found out about an art gallery/restaurant on Northampton and 11th as we were on our way out of town, too late to sample the food, but the art gallery is nice; excellent hot cocoa in Lambertsville, NJ; Kasey Lynn's is a friendly "greasy spoon" in Hellertown (just south of Bethlehem).
