My wife and I have not been to Dumont Burger in a while, maybe a year or so, finally went back today (Saturday) for lunch. They've changed the menu somewhat, but the old favorites (at least our old favorites) are still there. They had some pretty interesting-sounding specials, be we were there for the basics.
Maureen had the small mac and cheese, and I had the large burger with fries. I ordered my burger medium with Monterey Jack cheese and bacon, and it also included sliced raw onion, sliced tomato and round pickles, all on the side, as well as a lengthwise slice of pickle. The fries were pretty good, too.
I was transported to burger heaven from the moment I picked that sucker up, squeezing it slightly and seeing juice drip onto the plate, all the way to the saddest moment of the meal, the last bite of that burger. Maybe it was the rawness of the day or the fact that we had done some sweaty work without breakfast and were now chowing down for the first time of the day, or maybe it was just that the stars had aligned correctly, but I think that might have been the best burger I ever had. It is certainly among them.
The mac and cheese was pretty terrific as well, crusty on top, creamy and lush inside, with fusilli instead of elbow macaroni, and dotted generously with lardons. It was, in a word, delicious,
But I could not end the day without publicly mentioning that burger...
