Drift Inn - great as ever.

Went today to this quintessential waterside crab house w/ a group of 10. Softshells are gone. The large, meaty male steamed crabs were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The fried oysters were plump, juicy and perfect. The steamed clams were wonderful. The jumbo steamed shrimp (w/o heads - only flaw, IMO) were great as well. Their hush puppies are the definitive. Onion rings stellar. Everything was shared: 4 dozen crabs, dozen clams, 3 dozen shrimp, 3 dozen oysters., 2 dozen hush puppies, 2 dozen onion rings, one order fried cheese. All "dozens" were generously >12. Beer selection has improved beyond bud & bud light of previous years: we had Sam Adams this time. Seating is all indoors w/ picture windows to view the river. Service was good. Drift Inn redefines casual: no utensils beyond a mallet and paring knife. Put your oysters/clams/shrimp on the paper and small paper cups are provided for vinegar, cocktail sauce or extra old bay. There is a handwash sink in the middle of the dining room to use as needed. Total for the 10 of us was $260. Highly recommended. Drift Inn, 41301 Riverview Rd, Oraville, MD, 301-884-3470. Entrance off highway is opposite Capt. Leonards which is another great place.
