It would be nearly impossible to find this place just driving around. It's a couple of blocks off of Camp Bowie Rd and in what looks like a residential section.
Five of us went for lunch. All the vegetables were fantastic, the collard greens and fried okra were particular standouts. Green beans, northern beans, mashed potatoes, etc. were all great.
The smothered pork chops are the specialty of the house and are amazingly good, I got takeout the next day and my wife got them again. Several people at other tables were ordering the whole catfish and fillets. My son got the chicken fried steak, which was actually two smaller, very tender steaks with great coating and luxurious cream gray. Baked chicken with brown gravy was my choice. My only complaint was it was so tender, even the bones were soft and sometimes hard to pick out, but worth it. Only medium note was the cornbread which was a bit dry, but was great for soaking up the pot liquor of the greens.
The next day I picked up some fried chicken to go since it takes 20 minutes to prepare. The hot sauce for the wings was highly recommended. The fried chicken was good, but didn't live up to the bar set by the dishes from the day before. Sweet potato pie was very light, spicy, I prefer a little denser, but worth having.
If you're anywhere in the area, you've got to check it out.
