The oft-talked about Dragon Gate on Elisabeth between Grand and Hester was first discovered by Aki who enjoyed their fabulous white eel and shitake mushroom casserole. Chowing my way through the menu has exposed some inconsistencies in the kitchen but the food's always satisfying, the service is friendly and the menu, as long as you insist you want the eat-in version, has some unusual dishes for a restaurant at this price point.
Unfortunately the place has been consistently empty lately and they've recently instituted an extensive bargain lunch menu which contains all sorts of elaborate rice and non-rice casseroles, pork belly dishes, and several other types of hard to find traditional dishes all for $3.95-4.95. It's quite a bargain at an already affordable restaurant. Those seeking an inexpensive lunch should stop by Dragon Gate and help keep this place in business.
