After the closing of Shiang Garden and Crown Cafe things looked a little bleak for fans of authentic Hunan style food. However in the subsequent months the void has been more than filled by a series of new restaurant openings. The latest entrant is Dong Ting Spring, which has opened up in the San Gabriel square space formerly occupied by Green Village and subsequently Green City. I guess Dong Ting Spring specializes in Dong Ting regional cuisine, based both on the restaurant's name and the numerous references to Dong Ting dishes on the menu, though I don't know this for a fact. Menu has a "paper pot" section as well as a hot pot section and Chairman Mao's braised pork. I'll leave it for the fans of Hunan cuisine to determine where Dong Ting places in the order of Hunan style restaurants.
