Dominican in Stamford: Bachata

I recently tried a relatively new Dominican restaurant in Stamford, Bachata on East Main. It is located on the corner of Lafayette Street, just East of the small shopping center with the big wine store.

It is very casual and seems to be primarilly takeout, but there are 3 or 4 tables. You can order either cafeteria-style from the display up front or from the kitchen. We tried a variety of dishes from the cafeteria section, including pepper steak, pernil and two different rice dishes. We also ordered an asopao with shrimp (called "soupy rice" on the menu) from the kitchen.

Everything was at least good, with the pernil and asopao excellent. The asopao in particular was rich with an intense saffron aroma, and had about a dozen shrimp, and served in a big pot at the table. My kids keep asking for it.

Dinner for myself and two kids was a whopping $25, including some fruit drinks. The waitstaff couldn't have been any friendlier. We'll be going back.
