Dok Bua report

chowcat | Nov 12, 2005 07:20 AM

With much trepidation -- given recent reports of downhillishness by some here -- I took a party of nine to Dok Bua on Thursday night. I'm relieved to say that we had terrific food, much as I had remembered from a memorable chowhouund dinner a few years ago.

We did not specify "pet pet" heat, but many things were nicely hot and the catfish with chili sauce was delightfully incendiary.

Appetizers: tod mun (pretty good rendition of my fave), veggie dumplings, fresh rolls.

Other entree gems were chicken larb, green papaya salad, eggplant with chili and basil, a yummy tofu dish that I would have sworn was beef ("Tofu Gra-Prow"), roast duck fried rice with Chinese broccoli, pad tofu kow (stir fried fresh tofu with bean sprout, mushroom, snow pea...) - very light and a wonderful contrast to all the spice. I had a wonderful crispy duck with chili sauce that I could not stop eating.

Sticky rice with mango for dessert. Ahhhhh.

Many thanks to all hounds for tips on best dishes to order.
