I am not normally a fan of buffets, but Biryani Park is putting on a special dinner buffet for Diwali yesterday (Monday) and today (Tuesday, November 13th). I stumbled into it last night by chance --- I figured that Veterans Day might be a good evening to take the drive up to Malden on a weeknight with less rush-hour traffic.
I didn't bring my camera, but the deal was $20/pp. for the buffet, including fresh mango juice, dessert, and all you can eat savory food. It included three soups, a chick pea salad, a battered and fried vegetable, chicken 65, roti, string hoppers, nut-filled dumplings, a yellow yucca curry, a yellow broccoli curry, a number of other interesting vegetable dishes, rice, kotthu, and they brought around at least four different meat curries --- fish, goat, chicken and shrimp. There were five different pastries for dessert.
The only downside to the buffet is not being able to take some home for tomorrow, and there weren't any of the sambals or sauces that I'm used to at Biryani Park. That made the string hoppers a little dry, but the roti was fantastic, the chicken 65 as good as ever, and lots of the vegetable dishes I had never seen before. Nothing seem dried out or cold in the buffet.
I am not sure if everything on the buffet is also available on the regular menu (I don't think the chickpea salad is), but it certainly presented an opportunity to try many more dishes than I normally could, especially with only one other DC.
With a larger group, I think I still prefer ordering off the menu, but because it's only one more night, I wanted to post about this special buffet here. It's worth the trip.
