Divino--report from last night...

First, thanks to all who gave me their previews--helpful as always...

My dinner was very tasty from beginning to end...they gave a complimentary fried risotto appetizer that was delicious, as was the rich zucchini soup with pork-wrapped scallop...the attentive but not overbearing waitstaff recommended a nice wine to go with my dinner...I ordered the whole branzino special...really excellent and plentiful, a fish I'd never had before but heard about...aside from the price ($34 for the dish), I was more than satisfied...the sides also were simple, subtle, and exceptional--cooked greens, mashed potatoes, and a tomatoey eggplant...I was not excited when I heard the list of desserts nor particularly when I saw them arrive; however, the chocolate mousse and apple tart were exceptionally good and I strongly recommend them both...

Now the downsides for your consideration...while I liked the fact that there are nooks--downstairs, upstairs, and an upstairs side space--all spaces seemed to be a bit chilly for both me and my wife...we're in our late 30s and while there was nothing technically wrong with the decor, it felt upstairs notably more grandparently than hip...so consider taking your folks or grandfolks if they tend toward formal...there seem to be predominantly pasta main dishes with just a handful of meat/fish mains...they were out of the breaded john dory on risotto I initially ordered...my wife had the pasta with branzino and squid in a mild green buttery sauce and she was less enthusiastic about this but liked all of the other food...and I liked hers better than she did...

Final thoughts...both breads with oil and vineger were good...my decaf was weak, my wife's decaf cappucino good...my overall impression is that each dish was nicely prepared and more flavorful than usual--good ingredients well prepared...

Sincerely,
pesce
