After much research and hard thought, I finally made a reservation at Avalon for our anniversary trip to Toronto this past weekend.
We dined there on Friday night, one night before their scheduled closing to "move on to other things." I have to say I was sorely disappointed in our meal.
I will preface by saying my husband and I are not self-proclaimed "foodies" and we've only had the privilege of partaking in several "tastings" in our travels. But I will say that we (especially me thoroughly enjoy anything new, different and exciting. I live to eat and enjoy all the flavors and senses I can find to indulge in.
I just didn't feel that anything really stood out. As my husband put it, "nothing really exploded on my taste buds." The dishes seemed very bland. One in particular, an Arctic Char wrapped in cabbage surrounded by a carrot puree seemed very tasteless.
I guess I just didn't hit the right choice for us and I'd be very interested to hear what others feel about Avalon or if perhaps anyone else out there attended a tasting there this weekend and felt the same way.
On the other hand, we had a very nice lunch at Pangaea and a very good lite supper at Le Papillon.
Reading the previous post regarding "Senses" makes me wish I had selected that instead.
Any thoughts would be welcome...thanks!
