had dinner at platanos tonight - guerrero and 18th, i believe. sat at the bar and were pleasantly greeted at 9:45 on a sunday (they seat till 10 pm on sundays).
really warm decor, just a great vibe. enjoyed:
- ceviche ($10) - hearty portion made with mahi mahi (varies). served with banana chips on a martini size glass. excellent balance of lime, avocado, fish, seasoning
- duck tostadas ($~7) w/radish slaw. needed more accompaniments but loved the warm flour tortilla base.
- crab (since i am reading crab season hasn't yet started, i assume this is dungeness not local but it was still big chunks of tasty meat) salad on a bad of greens, properly dressed, with grilled avocado and mango (~$7) - delicious
- gambas mole verde with white rice and green beans - a very rich and creamy green mole with 6 plump shrimp ($14.50) - not a huge portion for the $s but loved the sauce. green beans were not seasoned and seemed like an afterthought to fill up the plate but again...the sauce.....
+ a few glasses of Marques de Alella Pansa Blanca from Spain ($7)
A really really wonderful place. Total bill was about $75 for 2 with tip and I wish we had some room to try the desserts. I highly recommend this warm neighborhood place.
