Dinner for 8-10 Friday Night, Not Too Loud

Was hoping to score a reservation at Gramercy Tavern, but that wasn't meant to be. It's my mom's 54th birthday, and we're looking for excellent food (not French, since she's going to Chanterelle the next night) good service and place that's not too loud to hear each other (nor too quiet... we can be a little loud ourselves). Flexible on price, as my dad was happy to take everyone to Babbo (but they won't accommodate a party that large), but I'm sure he'd appreciate a more affordable option assuming the other requirements were met. My dad was leaning toward something like Lupa, but we just had my wedding rehearsal there last month, so I'd like to do something different. We're 4 weeks out from the date, so something where we'd be able to get a reservation for somewhere between 7:30 - 9:30 would be ideal -- my sister and her husband are coming from Philadelphia, so they can't be here in time for some of the restaurants (Blue Hill, Red Cat) that would require us having dinner at 5:30.

Thanks in advance,
SparklieGirl
