Dinner For One?

I'm going into the city next Saturday to see a play. Normally when I go into the city by myself, I eat cheap and have a hot dog or sandwich and eat al fresco in the park. But it's too cold for that now! Last winter, I ended up eating a greasy slab of pizza in a sub-par fast food spot, just to get warm. So I'd like to splurge on a real meal, although my budget still says "moderate to low priced".

But I will be dining alone - and many restaurants in Manhattan don't exactly jump with joy when a "table for one" comes in the door, especially on Saturday night. If I'm going to have a rare dinner out, I don't want to feel like a second class citizen.

Any suggestions for great places to eat alone? It doesn't have to be fancy, just someplace where I can sit down out of the cold and get a tasty meal. I plan to eat fairly early, so I don't have to rush for my 8 pm show. (It doesn't have to be near the theatre district, as long as it's within easy subway distance.) Any kind of food is OK, as long as it's good!
