A friend who used to frequent Dynasty (iirc) on Rt 22 has been saying that the owners were opening up in New Providence; yesterday we finally stopped in for lunch, and I had to post, as I suspect people in that area don't know much about it yet!
While the name cracks me up, the friend I went with is VERY serious about his Chinese food--cooks Szechuan at home, shops in the Asian markets more than regular grocery stores, etc. We were there mid-afternoon on a cold, rainy, Saturday, and were pleased to see that the clientele was a total mix of Asian and non-Asian people--a good sign, imo.
Pork and shrimp shumai were OUTSTANDING, Har Gow (shrimp dumplings) delicious, pork and peanut dumplings good albeit a tad sweet for my taste, and the pork buns were yummy. We also had a fried glutinous dumpling that was very sweet, but wonderful once we dipped it in mustard and chili paste (which I'm guessing isn't the authentic way to eat those...). Finally, we ordered the steamed ribs in black bean sauce, which were made to order as there weren't any on the cart at the time. No evidence of black beans, but they were delicious, porky, fatty, salty nuggets. :-)
We had a light lunch because we had dinner plans already, but based on what we've sampled, it's going to be a go-to in the area.
They (ready?) don't seem to have a website, but the restaurant is a free-standing building in the parking lot of the New Providence Shopping Center at 1260 Springfield Ave (there's an A&P in the same center). Beautiful space, too--a nice bonus.
