Well, I made another long trek to DiFara this afternoon (Tuesday). An hour and a half going and two hours coming back by car from Westchester. Was it worth it....absolutely! Only about a half dozen customers. A 45 minute wait for the pizza.
My wife and I split an artichoke pie, which at $24, was the most expensive item on the menu. I was surprised that it didn't taste at all like the artichoke slice I sampled on a previous trip. With the slice, the artichokes are sauteed in olive oil before going on the pizza. I'm not sure this is done with the whole pie. The artichoke juices definitely masked a lot of the delicate flavors. Although I enjoyed the pie, I missed the complexity and uniqueness of the plain slice.
If you have never gone to DiFara, I strongly suggest you bypass the toppings! A plain round pie ($12) or huge square pie ($22) is definitely the way to go with two or more people, and will transport you directly to pizza heaven!!
