Phoenix Inn restaurant in San Gabriel: cruised by and noticed they had a "food boutique" next door. Vague memory from the Carl Chu book mentioning their unusual "high end" bakery, attached to the restaurant. I figured this was it.
It turns out: precious little on the baked goods, but very beautiful looking gelatinous treats and puddings.
I picked up something I tend to like: a gelatinous stack, red bean sandwiched between green tea gelatin. Their version: much more graceful than any I've had before, also adulterated. What I'm used to is a straightforward gelatin thing, pretty firm. This was cut with cream and milk, and had a very suave, creamy thing going on. Nice, strong green tea flavor, too.
There's a taro pudding waiting in the fridge for me, too.
This stuff was *pretty*.
