Delux Review

Last night a friend wanted to meet for dinner at Parish Cafe, and while I would ordinarily be delighted with that dining choice, I remembered Dax's recommendation for Delux over Parish, and suggested Delux instead. Atmosphere - check; surly server - check (not sure Parish's wait staff hold a rude candle to the grumpy eyes forward server we encountered at Delux last night); good food - check. We started with their special salad -- mixed greens with caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, and Vermont goat cheese. It was tasty. The onions were done perfectly. Moved on to chicken, bean, and cheese quesadilla (me), and the smothered porkchop (DC). Quesadilla was all that a quesadilla could be -- and their delicious fruit salsa was a nice addition, and, in fact, I wished they had brought more. The quesadilla was greaseless, the beans were tasty, and they appeared to use a sharp cheddar, and not too much of it, which was nice. The porkchop was served with black-eyed pea salad and collards, and it was tasty, falling apart, etc, but lacked a certain depth of flavor... it was satisfying, but I still have to give Parish the edge, if only for a greater variety in menu choices and more flavorful dishes. I'm glad I tried Delux, though, and if I'm ever in the area again, I'd eat there. Thanks Dax!
