Skinner's Sugar House in East Bridgewater, Mass. has been around since 1916, and my family has been buying stuff from them for almost as long.
Best known for peppermint patties (and wintergreen patties too!) coated in dark chocolate and jumbo cashews. But, like any good New England candy shop, they also have penuche (which they spell pinuchi) and lots of other good stuff.
The current owners bought it from the son of the first Skinner a couple of years ago. He trained them to ensure they wouldn't ruin the family name.
They finally have a web site with picture of the goods. But it's still a word-of-mouth operation. Google can't find a single reference to the place, even their own web site!
So check it out and try some good old-fashioned candy. Ask about the Peppermint "7"s. Those are peppermint patties with little molasses chips mixed into the chocolate coating. They don't make them any more because there is no demand, for reasons we cannot fathom. They belong in the confectionary hall of fame.
