DC Hound need Pre-Marathon & Post Marathon Rest. Recommendations

TVT - DC Hound | Sep 13, 2005 01:29 AM

My friends and I will be in Chicago the weekend of the marathon for 6 days. Will be there to run in the marathon but also to enjoy Chicago. We are staying at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place but we may have a car.

We need to carb load 2 days before the marathon so Italian food is probably best. Would like a recommendation for a reasonably priced restaurant and one in which price doesn't matter.

Also, would like recommendations for a post marathon celebration dinner. We're open to anything and have a flexible budget.

Lastly, would love to hear recommendations for other places that we should check out while we're in Chicago (for breakfast, brunch, lunch, bars, lounges).

Some friends have mentioned the following places:

Nine - chic steakhouse w/ nice lounge upstairs
Carmine's - good Italian
Volare - good Italian
Rosebud - good Italian
India House - Indian
Kamahachi - yummy Japanese
Red Light - Asian Fusion
Opera - Asian; hip & trendy, near hotel
Joy Yee's Noodle Shop in Chinatown
Arun's - Thai
Tru - nouveau cuisine
Mirai - good sushi
Uno - pizza
Tavern on Rush - great food & atmosphere
Le Passage - great lounge near Tavern on Rush
Grand Luxe
Japonais - upscale Pan Asian w/ great lounge area
Le Colonial - Franco-Viet restaurant
Red Light
Blue water grill
Sushi Samba Rio
Mas - Latin Fusion; in Wicker Park
Cafe Laguardia - Cuban; great atmosphere for drinks

For brunch:
Orange
Toast
Tempo and Oak Tree Cafe

Thanks!
