We have 1 night and 1 day in Albuquerque and four days in Santa Fe on our upcoming trip, probably our only vacation this year. We have spent lots of time in NM but have not been back in 2 years and need current advice. I just spent hours reading the ABQ and SF threads, and am now ravenous and dithering about where to eat when we are there.
There are a couple of things we know we will do: drive to Espanola to eat at El Paragua (surprised to find only one mention in the posts I read here), and eat at least once at Cafe Pasquale (despite all the fussing about touristy, etc we have never had a less-than-delicious meal there). We want New Mex food, love spicy (both red and green), are omnivorous and are pretty picky about quality.
Having said that, we are just as happy with tacos and beer in a dive (as long as they are good!) as we are with complex cuisine in a deluxe setting. We don't have a ton of money but will generally spend whatever we do have on food. We both have many years as food professionals, are too knowledgable for our own good, and have a low tolerance for pretension and hype. We find that very few chefs can carry off the kind of food that really earns a high price tag. However, we are also adventurous, positive and enthusiastic.
Based on this info, can y'all help us narrow down all the choices discussed in these threads to what is best for us right now?
Thanks in advance for the help. If we could eat 6 meals a day we would, but we will probably have to limit ourselves to three!
