Davio's and others

A friend chose Davio's for his b-day dinner which was fine by me. I love that room on Arlington St. even tho the wood floors make it pretty loud. Would have liked to eat at the bar cuz the bartender was friendly but after a short delay for our 7:45 res., we got one of the big booths. Split the fried chicken liver appetizer which could have been a meal for one person. I chose scallops and he had lobster ravioli w/ a side of grilled asparagus. Scallops had a red pepper sauce which I didn't remember being advertised, and I like my scallops to shine thru unadorned but it was good. Side of risotto I think came with it. Lobster ravioli were amazing, rich as expected. He had the warm choc. cake w/ ice cream and I had a pretty decent nectarine tart w/ ginger ice cream. A very sweet Norwegian waitress provided knowledgeable service, about $125 w/ two glasses of wine, tax and tip. We enjoyed it.

Stopped by Audobon originally planning on getting a burger but opted for a turkey panini, I'm into pressed sandwiches lately. My friend's burger looked as good as ever and the panini was pretty good (both $7), altho I think they had ham on it instead of the bacon. Didn't like their Asian slaw tho. Even tho the menu is somewhat limited, almost everything sounds good.

Was at the National Heritage Museum on Sat. (great exhibit on neon) and thought it would be a good time to try Copacafe cuz I was a Coffee Connection fan. It's definitely more of a real restaurant and their dinner menu looks really good. You can get 3 or 4 interesting courses for $21 or so and up. I just wanted an iced coffee and something sweet. There was a good choice of croissants, but just a few muffins and I didn't see any cookies or scones (altho I could have been blind). They did have fancier pastries but I wasn't in the mood for that. In any case, I asked for a 16 oz iced coffee, hoping it would be in a clear plastic container cuz that's just a weird quirk I have (like to see how much cream I'm putting in, like the style cup better, etc). She reaches for a regular style cup and I said "16 oz please", cuz it looked small. She said it *was* 16 oz, I said No, that's 12 and she said she'd measure it if I wanted. I wasn't gonna argue with her but obsessed as I was, I got my 2 cup measuring cup out when I got home and sure enough, it was 12 oz. Maybe 13 but no way was it 16. Was the coffee good? Yeah, that well rounded not overdone coffee that they were known for. And the chocolate croissant was pretty good too but...
