Danville Farmers' Market Find: Vintage Ironing Boards and Shortcake

Bakesale Betty: I stopped by the booth without even knowing what they were selling--I was captivated by the collection of colorful vintage ironing boards. They made perfect display tables for the baked goods. The vanilla shortcake was a huge hit tonight with strawberries and whipped cream. It was sweet, rich and texture was perfect. Their scones are also delicious--same dough as shortcakes. They sell at 2 farmers' markets--Danville on Saturday and Walnut Creek on Sunday. They are also opening a store in Temescal--5098 Telegraph. From their website I learned that Betty is Alison "Betty" Barakat. She is from Australia and cooked at Chez Panisse for 3 years. I'm guessing the charming guy who helped me is her fiance, Michael.
