Last night we were looking for a place we had not been to and one that was not participating in Winterlicious - so we tried da.nu.la (67 Richmond W.). Had a very good evening. Since the Opera House is not yet open it looks like evenings are slow - there were 7 diners, so we did get excellent service from the one server/bartender and from the owner, Jonathan. Looked like there was just the one chef in the kitchen - apparently they have only recently promoted Abbey Solomon to the head chef position and I believe this young man has a future. I am not good at dredging up unique adjectives to describe food and its presentation so here I will be brief. We had the soup of the day and the beet salad to start - love those chunky beets. For mains we both went for the fish of the day special which was sole and for desserts we had the in-house ice cream and creme brule. All dishes were excellent and I will certainly return.
Regarding price points, they are lower than many of their competitors - mains were in the low $20s (fish of the day $23) - I think the steak at $27 was the most expensive item.
With a decent bottle of wine and one aperitif and one coffee the total including taxes but not tip was $175.
